You had me at chocolate orange! Say no more. Soft, delicate chocolate orange sponge with creamy, heavenly chocolate buttercream.
I don’t know what was covered in more buttercream when piping these, me or the cupcakes, but it was worth the mess. Definitely up there with one of my favourite cakes that I bake.
Makes 12
Preheat oven to 190C / 170c fan
Ingredients
120g butter
120g light brown sugar
120g self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs
30g cocoa powder
Juice of 1/2 a large orange and the zest to decorate
Tub of chocolate frosting
Method
Beat together your butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy. Slowly add your orange juice bit by bit and continue to beat until fully incorporated.
Now add your flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and eggs and continue to beat so you have a nice dropping consistency from the spoon.
Transfer into your cake cases and bake on the middle shelf of your oven for approximately 20 minutes.
Once you’ve removed from the oven, allow to cool on a wire rack and once fully cool pipe on your frosting and sprinkle on your orange zest.
